OUR PURPOSE To create public enthusiasm about conserving Clarke County trees, to educate area citizens about trees, to promote awareness of the environmental benefits that trees provide, and to foster sentiments of respect for the beauty and historical significance that trees possess. 
TREE AWARENESS To this end we have a number of programs in the community to create interest and heighten awareness and pride in our trees. The largest effort so far has been an attempt to identify Champions in our community. The newest initiative is a Landmark Tree identification program. TREE IDENTIFICATION We have provided you with information about our native trees with certain trees highlighted in our Trees of the Piedmont section. NATIONAL PROGRAMS There are numerous activities sponsored or coordinated by the Tree Council and other organizations on Arbor Day every year. Athens is recognized as a Tree City USA City by the National Arbor Day Foundation. |
