qualify for Tree City USA including a tree board (council) a tree ordinance (the A-CC ordinance creating the Community Tree Council qualifies), and a least $2 per capita expenditure by the community in tree related care and management. To sustain these and other requirements is not a trivial accomplishment, but ACC has done just this over the past 4 years. This shows the community has a long-term commitment to the responsible stewardship of the community forest. In addition, the building programs and activities of the CTC has earned the community three consecutive Growth Awards.

The most frustrating problem faced by the CTC regarding Tree City USA, was securing approval by the various state and local departments of transportation for Tree City USA sign placement. Finally 9 Tree City USA signs were placed strategically throughout the Athens-Clarke County area. It is with appreciation that the CTC acknowledges Lamar Outdoor Advertising for underwriting the cost of 6 of these signs.
