Friend of Trees Award 2009 Beginning in 1997 the Urban Tree Advisory Committee, followed by the Community Tree Council, has presented the Friend of Trees Award to persons or organizations that exemplify good stewardship of trees in Athens-Clarke County. Selection of recipients is based on the use and/or preservation of trees in unique ways that enhance property aesthetics and/or demonstrate protection and concern for the environment. Since 1997, 35 awards have been presented. The Community Tree Council is pleased to present the 2009 Friend of Trees Award to Larry Morris. | |
| This year the CTC is proud to be able to honor Larry Morris who recently retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission. |
| Larry has been involved in community forestry for years. Most recently he headed the Sustainable Community Forestry Program for GFC. In that role he was the main architect of the Making the Shade program which assisted communities in re-foresting public school grounds. |
