Leaves: Alternate, simple, 2" to 4" long, 1 1/2" to 2 1/2"
wide, ovate or elliptical with rounded base. Purple-green
foliage that lends to the name "copper beech". South of
its range in Athens, the European beech is small and slow
growing in the Georgia piedmont.
