Notes: Considered one of the larger of the southern red oaks, the Shumard oak can grow to 150Ein height while developing a large
round open crown. The Shumard oak produces high quality timber for construction, flooring and furniture, and is often considered
more valuable than northern red oak. The species is well suited to the Athens area, but is a large tree best suited to forest or
open spaces.
