Notes: The Winged Elm is considered a medium sized tree, but in some cases achieves considerable size, as does this champion. It has spreading branches that form a round topped crown. The tree is common in the South and is well suited to the Athens-Clarke County area. The Winged Elm is a large landscape tree, and is distinctive by the corky wings on its thin branches.

Bark: Light brownish gray, divided into flat often superficially scaly ridges by narrow, shallow fissures.
